After an operation, what are the main things to do??

its a pretty serious operation, is there any particular foods you should eat to get better quiker? also what happens if you eat veryyy little after a serious operation, will it have a side effect? and what are some tips to recover QUICK tnnkkkk uuuuu X
Answer:
It depends a lot on the operation! It is a different matter if the operation involved working on your stomach or intestines vs. working on your bones or joints. As a general rule, I would suggest that you not try to force down foods, especially heavy or greasy foods, early in the operation, and if your operation had anything to do with your throat, avoid eating anything you might choke on, such as steak. If you are taking narcotic pain killers you are prone to get constipation, and it might help to take a stool softener. Ultimately your body will need protein in order to heal, but that doesn't mean you have to force-feed yourself protein. A good, moderate, healthy diet that does not make you sick to your stomach is the best. If you are having trouble getting in enough food you might want to supplement your diet with a multivitamin. Two very serious complications from big operations are pneumonia and deep venous thrombosis, the latter meaning that you get blood clots in your large veins that can break off, go to your lungs and kill you. One way to combat both of these problems is to get up walking as soon as feasible.
Get plenty of protein to help heal faster and just follow all of your doctors orders.
It will depend on the procedure being performed. Your doctor will give you strict orders and will give you a list of dietary restrictions, if any. You will receive detailed instructions when you go to your pre-op appointment, and you will receive detailed instructions after your surgery. Follow these instructions, and inform your doctor of any concerns, and you will be fine. If your operation requires you to stay in the hospital, your doctor will send dietary restrictions/orders to the cafeteria staff. I wish you the best for a quick recovery.
