A medical question?

can a doctor write prescriptions for himself? i know it sounds like a dumb question but can they?? think of the bad side of that?? just curious thanx
Answer:
Generally they can write a prescription for an antibiotic or some non narcotic drug. Most don't anyway for fear of future repercussions. They can definately get into trouble for writing a prescription for narcotics for themselfs. It is a law that pharmacies also have to check ID's on narcotic prescriptions in most states. With the use of computers it would be very hard not to have questions come up about narcotic usesage. The occasional one for an injury or something but start to write a couple and things get fishy. We had a dentist here who worte narcotic scripts for everyone including his grandparents, kids, neices and nephews but they all were for him.. He lost his lisence.
My brother-in-law is a doctor and he's written scripts for his wife and kids, but I think it's a no-no for one's self, but I don't know this for sure. I imagine it would leave a papertrail for possible licensure issues later on, so no smart doctor would do it.Seriously, couldn't a dr just make up a name and take it to the drugstore. I don't think I've ever been asked for an id...
I don't believe they can because they are monitored closely by the medical boards in what ever state they are in. We had a physician in the ER that go ill while he was working and we had to call in another physician to give orders, do tests, order medications and admit him to the hospital.
in this country u cant (UK).. some countries u can ...
